iPhone Care Tips: 10 Ways to Get More from Your iPhone

Understand your iPhone. Protect your information. Make everyday use easier.

These iPhone care tips from Reilu PhoneFix cover battery settings, security, storage and useful features. They suit most iPhones from the past five years, although some settings depend on your model and iOS version.

1. 🔋 Check What Is Using Your Battery

Open Settings → Battery to review battery usage and see which apps consume the most power.

Look at your usage before assuming the battery needs replacement. Navigation, video recording and other demanding activities can use considerable energy.

Also check Battery Health or Battery Health & Charging, depending on your model. Consider the information alongside actual symptoms, such as short running time or unexpected shutdowns.

2. ⚡ Use Your iPhone’s Charging Protection

Keep Optimised Battery Charging enabled to reduce the time your battery spends fully charged.

On iPhone 14 and earlier, find it under Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging.

On iPhone 15 and later, open Settings → Battery → Charging. Supported software offers charge limits between 80% and 100%. Choose a limit that suits your daily needs; Optimised Battery Charging is available when the limit is 100%.

3. 🪫 Use Low Power Mode When You Need Extra Time

Low Power Mode helps reduce power consumption when you are away from a charger.

Find it in Settings → Battery, or under Power Mode within Battery settings, depending on your model and software. You can also add it to Control Centre.

Some activities may run more slowly while it is enabled. It is useful for extending a charge, but it does not restore a worn battery’s capacity.

4. ☁️ Check That Your Backup Actually Works

Go to Settings → your name → iCloud → iCloud Backup.

Enable Back Up This iPhone and check the date of the last successful backup. Before a repair or phone replacement, select Back Up Now and allow it to finish.

Do not ignore an “iCloud storage full” message—it can prevent a new backup from completing.

Remember that information already syncing to iCloud, including iCloud Photos when enabled, is handled separately from your iCloud device backup.

5. 🔐 Set Up Protection Before Your iPhone Goes Missing

Check Settings → your name → Find My → Find My iPhone. Find My can help you locate a missing device or mark it as lost.

Also enable Stolen Device Protection, available with iOS 17.3 or later, under Face ID & Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode.

This adds biometric checks and, for certain sensitive changes, a security delay—even if someone knows your passcode. It must be enabled before the phone is stolen.

6. 📦 Free Up Storage with the Built-In Tools

Open Settings → General → iPhone Storage to see what is taking up space and review the recommendations.

For apps you rarely use, consider Offload App. This removes the app while retaining its documents and data. You will need to download the app again before using it.

Review large downloads and videos carefully, and make sure important files are saved elsewhere before deleting them.

7. 🛡️ Review What Your Apps Can Access

Open Settings → Privacy & Security and review access to your camera, microphone, photos, contacts and location.

Give each app only the access it needs. For example, an app that only needs your general area may work with Precise Location switched off.

Review permissions individually, because navigation and other location-based functions may need more accurate access.

8. 🔄 Keep iOS and Apps Updated

Check Settings → General → Software Update for updates compatible with your iPhone. Keep your apps updated through the App Store too.

Official updates can address security weaknesses and software problems. Enable automatic updates if they suit your routine, and maintain a recent backup.

Check updates through Settings rather than following unexpected messages claiming your iPhone urgently needs an update.

9. 📄 Scan Documents Using Notes

Your iPhone can scan receipts, forms and other paperwork using the built-in Notes app.

Open Notes, create or select a note, then tap the attachment button → Scan Documents. On older software, the option may appear under the camera button.

Position the document in good lighting, check the captured edges and save the scan. You can then share it when needed.

10. 🔧 Understand Your iPhone’s Repair History

On supported models and software, open Settings → General → About and look for Parts and Service History.

This can show information about replaced components. An Unknown label can have several causes, including a non-genuine part, an unverified installation or a part that is not functioning as expected.

Before agreeing to a repair, ask which part will be fitted, whether any messages or feature limitations are expected, and what warranty applies.
